Name reservations

We can reserve Proposed names on your behalf. Proposed names are to be used when registerering a new company, or when changing the name of an existing company.

You can provide up to 4 names, listed in order of preference. The CIPC will allocate and reserve the first name without conflict, or the first name with the least conflict.

If the answer to any ofr the questions below is "Yes",  manual lodgements with supporting documents must be submitted to CIPC offices and you should rather contact us directly.

Does any name include any word in a language that is not an official language of the Republic?

Does any proposed name include any word, number or other element that constitutes a registerd trademark, mark in respect of which an application for registration has been filed in the Republic or a well known trade mark as contemplated in section 35 of the Companies Act of the Trade Marks Act, 1993?

Does any proposed name fall within the category of names restricted in terms of section 11 (2(c)) of the Companies Act or regulation 8 (5)?

Is any proposed name similar to that of another company, close corporation or co-operative ?
  
A proposed name is not reserved for use until the Commission has issued a Confirmation Notice in Form CoR 9.4. Presently, the CIPC provides the confirmation within 24 hours, which we will forward to you.
